Why “Something Isn’t Better Than Nothing” When It Comes to School Supplies

We’ve all had the moment when we think, “Someone might need this, even if it’s a bit worn.” Maybe it’s a notebook with a crease or a backpack that’s seen better days. It’s easy to assume that “something is better than nothing,” but when it comes to school supplies, that’s not the case.

Here’s why:

Imagine you’re a student getting ready to start the school year. You walk into class with a bent folder, a torn pencil case, or a backpack that’s already falling apart. It doesn’t exactly make you feel excited, does it? And worse, it sends a message that says, “Your education doesn’t deserve the best.” No student should feel that way.

At the Sydney Paige Foundation, we believe that every student deserves brand-new, high-quality school supplies. Whether they’re starting kindergarten or their senior year, we want them to feel confident, excited, and prepared for success. New supplies are more than just tools—they represent opportunity, pride, and a belief in the student’s potential. We want every student to walk into their classroom knowing they are supported, valued, and ready to tackle the year ahead.

That’s why we don’t collect “gently used” supplies. Instead, we purchase new, high-quality materials for every student we serve. We want students to feel empowered from the very first day of school, knowing that there are people who believe in them and are cheering them on.

You can help us make this a reality. Your donation ensures that students receive the supplies they need to succeed. Donate today and help send the message: You are worth it.
